Treat your A-Level (German Abitur / French baccalauréat) students to something special.  There is considerable evidence that a residential fieldwork trip is the highlight of students' school and college years.  Offering a fieldwork experience at AS level may increase recruitment to A level.  In an independent survey carried out over many years virtually all students concluded that their CERES fieldtrip improved the quality of their program of study.  We are proud that our trips received an average overall score of 4.9 points out of 5 since four years.

We will help the teacher to provide a learning environment that engages and challenges the learner.  We take care of the logistics and organize contextualized activities to help the trip leader to achieve the learning outcomes.  We welcome groups for a range of subjects including geography, biology, geology, sports, tourism, science or environmental studies on either a self-taught, centre assisted or centre taught basis.

CERES International was founded and is run by academics. We have plenty of experience teaching in secondary schools. Our mission is to assist the trip leader in running a successful event.

Aljezur with its charming Portuguese architecture, relaxed atmosphere, cultural diversity and reasonable prices provides the perfect base for study. It is centrally located within the Parque Natural. The Costa Vicentina is a hub for outdoor activities like surfing, mountain biking, hiking and kajaking.  Aljezur is the place to engage students in different and challenging activities before sampling the obligatory bica and Portuguese cuisine in town at any time of the year.

Specific fieldwork courses have been developed to enable teachers to quickly and easily book a residential fieldtrip, safe in the knowledge that it will be directly related to work taught in the classroom and will contribute to achieving specification requirements under the following exam boards: 


AQA | Edexcel | OCR | WJEC | CIE | CCEA


Whether you are preparing for AS / A (fieldwork file or fieldwork exam, practical skills, research skills, investigative skills ect.) or GCSE controlled assessment, we will provide the answer.  Our courses provide clearly stated outcomes and links to specification requirements. The content can be tailored to meet your needs.  Although it has been designed with the needs of students in England and Wales in mind, it should be helpful wherever in the world you are.

We welcome groups on either a accommodation only, centre assisted or centre taught basis.

For a price of  €249 per person per week  trip leaders enjoy the full support of our centre assisted option. This option includes:

Assistance with pre-trip planning:  we work with you to put an individual itinerary together, suggest high quality fieldwork sites with prior access agreements and provide risk assessments.

Field equipment:  we have plenty of equipment for you to use during your trip, such as microscopes, clinometer, GPS, quadrates, maps, balances, first aid kit, nets, etc.
Permits and licenses:  we will apply on your behalf for all permits and licenses you will need to carry out field work or research in the natural park.

 24h emergency assistance:  here are always friendly, trained staff on hand to deal with queries and ensure that everyone is well looked after.
Accommodation:  you will reside in our comfortable Villa close to the beach. The Villa has four bedrooms, multimedia facilities, pool ...go to page

 Recreation:  we have several kayaks, a small boat with outboard engine, surf boards, fishing gear, a bike for a quick shopping run,snorkelling  gear, etc..
Airport pick up and on-site travel:  we will pick you up from the airport and supply you with modern, fully insured minivans during your stay in the Algarve.

Depending on budget, objectives of the trip and funding options the core packet can be supplemented with:

Evening meals (€12 /pp):  Arriving late? Spend the whole day in the field? We take you out to our favourite local restaurants or arrange dinner at your accommodation that is ready for you when you arrive.
 Workshops and guided tours (€300 /full day):  We deliver day or half-day workshops on a wide range of topics.  Workshops are tailored to your groups level of subject knowledge and learning outcomes...go to page.

Extension weeks:  If your students have to finish an assignment or if you are thinking about setting up a research project you can extend your stay at our lodge. We are trying to avoid back-to-back group bookings.

Customised T-Shirts (€19): Dress in style. A local company prints 100% organic cotton T-Shirts with your logo. The company uses a new eco-certificated heat transfer printing process for the best results.
Local driver and tour guide (€10 /h):  If you want to relax and concentrate on your work, ask our staff to do the driving.  Our drivers know the area very well. They drive you safely to the places you want to visit.

Careful selection of practical syllabus components and collaboration between stakeholders is necessary to create meaningful learning experiences for students.  If you are thinking about offering a new course that includes a trip abroad or if you want to update and refine an existing module please contact us.  We can help you to design pre-visit lessons, a trip itinerary, assessment mode and post visit activities to meet learning outcomes.



work experience 

If your course has a work based learning component CERES International is able to offer a limited amount of placements per annum.  We can you help you to strengthen the links of your institute with industry, charities and non-governmental organisations in the Algarve through our network of partner organisations. 

Interested students should contact us directly outlining precisely his or her qualifications, skills and competencies and include the relevant module descriptor. We will get in contact with suitable placement providers to establish what the student will need in order to carry out the placement and to ascertain whether or not the student concerned meets these requirements. The student will understand what exactly is required and will be able to check that they will be able to meet the learning outcomes of their course.
