before learned so much in such a short time, and I would have never believed
that living in one big house with 15 international students would be that much
fun. We all have grown to be a family, there will be reunions and future cooperations.I wish everybody could get a chance to
experience what I did." SPW May 2019

CERES Project
science project Aljezur, Algarve, Southwest Portugal
science expedition
summer science expedition for AS and A2 level students
Our
Science Expedition offers A-level students the chance to design and carry out
their own small research project in the unique setting of the Parque Natural do
Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina. Students work closely together
with an enthusiastic and friendly university researcher collecting data for
important conservation projects. This is an once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for young people to discover what it means to be a working
scientist engaged in projects that help protect, conserve and make sense of the
natural world.
In
the field, students carry out their own investigation, collect data and learn
about experimental set up from the experts. The practical work is
supported by contextualised lectures and workshops on literature research, data
analysis and report writing. At the end of the week, the students will
present their work to peers and invited guests.
learning outcomes
The
Science Expedition has been developed in close cooperation with leading A-level
colleges to provide clearly stated outcomes and links to specification
curriculum requirements. The Science Expedition covers the leaning
outcomes of the Edexcel A2 Biology Unit 6 Coursework (and equivalent units from
other exam boards) and prepares AS-level students for their final year. For school leavers, the practical experience in fieldwork and report writing is
an invaluable preparation for an academic career. Field experience
increases their chances of being accepted at a leading university.
Equally important are holostic values and transferable skills: international educational travel broadens minds and builds intellectual
curiosity. It motivates, engages and ultimately improve the opportunities
available to school students.
for parents
Your
child will work with top international scientists on projects related to
biology, geography, tourism, environmental science or geology. Your son
or daughter will have the opportunity to become full participants in the
scientific process. CERES staff make safety and welfare a priority. Our safety
measures include:
o Thorough risk assessments carried out prior to the start of the project
o Qualified and experienced teaching staff
