field trips for science courses
Professionally organised field trips from academics for academics. We have experienced the benefits of field trips both from a student and a lecturer´s perspective; field trips encourage professional and personal growth, provide students with an opportunity to experience reality, and add relevance to the study.
However, having lead field trips ourselves for many years, we are only too aware of the responsibilities which burden the organiser. We cannot remove these entirely, but we can make your pre-visit planning infinitely easier. We will make sure that you enjoy your stay to the full. We work hard to provide exactly the centre that we would have liked to visit.

why choose portugal´s west coast?
Portugal is a safe, hassle free environment to take students to with an excellent health system. Portugal is `exotic´ enough to inspire even the most unemotional student in your group.

student project work
The CERES mission is to act as a hub for multidisciplinary
research. CERES research areas have been
informed by global agendas and aim to influence conservation decisions. The variety of terrestrial, marine and
freshwater habitats in the Parque Natural provides ideal opportunities for students to carry out project work as part of
their course syllabus. Spending a week at
the western Algarve collecting data (with or without their supervisor) in the field,
students learn new skills, gain specialist knowledge and contribute on research
programs relevant to conservation. Project field trips provide a chance for staff
and students to both work and relax together in an informal, stimulating
natural environment.
Interested institutions or students should contact us before the start
of the academic year, clearly outlining subject areas, level of work expected
and a time frame. We will provide you
with a list of suitable projects for your consideration. We can also arrange exploratory
visits for project supervisors.
A PowerPoint presentation introducing our Student Project Weeks can be downloaded here.
module development
Careful selection of field study sites and collaboration between stakeholders is necessary to create meaningful learning experiences for students. If you are thinking about validating a new course or curriculum module that includes a field trip or if you want to update and refine an existing module please contact us. We can help you to design pre-visit lessons, a field trip itinerary, assessment mode and post visit activities to meet learning outcomes.

work experience
If your course has a Work Based Learning component CERES
International is able to offer a limited amount of placements each year. We can help you to strengthen the links
of your institute with industry, charities and non-governmental organisations
in the Algarve through our network of partner
organisations.
Interested
students should contact us directly outlining precisely
his or her qualifications, skills and competencies and include the relevant module
descriptor. We will get in contact with suitable placement providers to establish
what the student will need in order to carry out the placement and to ascertain
whether or not the student concerned meets these requirements. The student will
understand what exactly is required and will be able to check that they will be
able to meet the learning outcomes of their course.
exploratory visits
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further information or to be put in touch with another university that uses our Conservation Centre. If you would like to visit us to look at our field study sites and facilities we will be pleased to welcome you at a mutually convenient time.
